The Dodge Challenger can be said to be the first Chrysler five passenger , two door coupe that is produced from the Chrysler Corporation’s well proven rear drive platform. In an age where almost all cars seem to be front wheel drive creatures , a rear wheel drive variant is more than refreshing. It harks back to the “good old days” , when most all cars were rear wheel drive. Sure both sides have good points. Front wheel drive has become ubiqutous , not so much for any speed or handling advantages – but rather for the weight and space savings that can be afforded in these times of concerns of fuel economy – by reducing space and weight concerns. On top of that there is no heavy , bulky . transverse cabin drive shaft of the rear wheel drive vehicles.
Yet front wheel drive is complex , hard to setup , build and repair , as well as expensive. Rear wheel drive is easier to build, hardier as well as being simpler and less expensive to repair.
Thus it is more than refreshing to see the proven , rear wheel drive technology and hardware of the Chrysler “300″ series in another outstanding Chrysler vehicle – in this case being the “60’s Muscle Car Remake “ – 2009 Chrysler Challenger RT motor car. Bravo.
