The automotive vehicle suspension system supports the body and chassis and attaches them to the wheels. Suspension is also the system that give us a nice comfortable ride. Were it not for your automobile’s or trucks suspension every time you went over a bump or winnipeg pothole. the car would bounce, bounce and bounce seemingly forever. But the suspension is even more important to your safety than to your comfort. The suspension components help to keep the tires in constant contact with the roadway.
For many years automobiles were designed “body on frame” – a metal body that included the passenger compartment , hood, trunk and fenders were attached to a steel frame that included the power train, steering and suspension. Most vehicles today use a frameless “uniibody” construction: both frame and body are made of metal panels that are inherently and intrinsically welded together. These changes have been made cars more comfortable and airtight. They have also made what were simply suspension components rather all too complex .
