For many years automobiles were designed “body on frame” – a metal body that included the passenger compartment , hood, trunk and fenders were attached to a steel frame that included the power train, steering and suspension.   Most vehicles today use a frameless “uniibody”  construction: both frame and body are made of metal panels that are inherently and intrinsically welded together.  These changes have been made cars more comfortable and airtight.  They have also made what were simply suspension components rather all too complex .
