Not long ago all it tool and in most cases all auto and car thieves “had to do” was to break into an auto dealers lot to make off with a car. Simple case of theft reports experienced crime scene observer K Stevens . Now in 2010 they have found an even easier means to just in essence walk into the front door and drive off with a vehicle. Its almost as in the case of a Peter Seller’s movie “Modern Methods for Modern Criminals”. And wait for even more even more modern and up to date future criminal activities in the automotive areas and trends.
It seems that we are witnessing are car , truck and SUV thieves actually strolling onto the dealer’s and dealers lots , financing the vehicle or many cases number of vehicles and then simply almost legally turning on the ignition and then “driving away”. Its as if these modern highwaymen can have it off the lot and almost to a waiting shipping container for export overseas from Canada or the USA in a flash , sailing away into the horizon in less than an hour – on its way to a new driver and basically “new car” owner. So much for used automotive purchases. Why buy used when you can have it brand spanking new ? The ink is not even dry on the financing contract and terms yet when the new vehicle is on its final destination to its new owner or owners.
This new form of automotive purchasing deception or what might be seen as the ultimate in “auto credit criminals”, are lured by easy terms , low or no down payments with 30 days to pay. Armed with false and “fake” documents and documentation the new auto purchasers target the vendor supported with bogus or “stolen” drivers licenses , other seemingly authentic id, falsified T4s and other income reporting devices, employment records , perhaps a stolen credit card or cards – be they Amex, Mastercard, Visa, or even debit cards with the down payment intact in the bank account. Its simply a one , two three swipe and its a legitimate or perhaps non legitimate transfer of funds into the finance manager’s hands to wet the progress of the deal and its eventual final transaction. It used to take a fake check to initiate such fraud , but now in 2009 / 2010 why bother. Simply place what might be considered a “small down payment “into the hands of a willing dealer or their hard pressed staff – that is to make the numbers , and the system – based on trust is in full play.
Part 2 of this modern trend of automotive sales deception to follow !
