Again and again insurance companies ( auto insurance)  and their technical experts – locksmiths , head of theft deterrence departments  ( deterrence is the key word here as nothing as absolute) will state – even in court when it comes to theft of autos and trucks that have factory theft deterrent devices and factory installed immobilizer harnesses that “theft of such a vehicle is impossible”  – “complex” , “electronics”  , “algorithms”  etc etc etc

Yet here is a case of a vehicle , or vehicles being stolen directly from an auto dealer themselves via copied eletronic keys.

How is this possible or is the industry – be it auto , auto insurance or auto insurance theft “deterrent departments” misinformed ?

From “The Whitehorse Star” newspaper March 19,2010  the headline reads:

“Man Copied Keys , Then Stole Trucks”

Fairbanks Alaska:  Police say a Fairbanks man took trucks from local dealerships (plural it is not a one shot deal) for test drives , made copies of the keys and later stole the vehicles.

The trucks were taken from JCS Auto sales and Affordable Used Cars.

Eighteen year old Jared A. Jensen  has been charged with two counts of first degree vehicle theft.

Police say he admitted test driving a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, despite  the company’s recent recall scares,  and a 20o2 Chevrolet making copies of the keys and then returning to steal both.  Both vehicles were recovered.

Jensen’s bail was set at the time at $ 1500 US.
