With propane powered vehicles dangerous serious accidents are relatively few. Liquefied petroleum gas can indeed be a safety concern. The strength of propane burning vehicles fuel tanks almost obviates unhappy results in the event of a collision. Locks and valves in the fuel system are designed to prevent accidents.
It has been said that in the unlikely event of a tank puncture in a highway crash , the gas usually vents and burns if ignited rather than exploding.
Propane is not new . Or rather LPG is not new. It was known at the turn of the last century in New York City. Back in 1914 a car was run in New York City. There were several dozen cars using propane. By the post war era there were close to 20,000 trucks, buses, farm and earth moving equipment utilizing propane or propane -butane fuels.
